Belfast Telegraph - His famed six-pack helped make his name as an underwear model before his acting career took off — but not even hunky Jamie Dornan can resist the lure of a chippy.

The Fall star delighted staff at The Chippy on Antrim’s Railway Street last weekend when he called in for a cod supper after filming in the town.

The 32-year-old Holywood heartthrob, who is playing Christian Grey in the raunchy 50 Shades of Grey movie, had been shooting scenes for the second series of hit BBC series The Fall in which he stars as serial killer Paul Spector, when he got peckish.

RECOGNISED

Joanne Graham, manager of The Chippy, was half way through a busy Friday night shift when the superstar walked in looking for some grub.

“We’re always very busy on Friday night but we all noticed Jamie come in — we knew we recognised him but couldn’t figure it out,” she said.

“But one of our customers knew who it was right away — we nearly died.

“Up until now the most famous people we had in the chippy were the Hole in the Wall gang, and that was in the mid 90s, so this is definitely our biggest celebrity visitor.”

Rather than send an assistant to get his takeaway, gentleman Jamie queued like a normal punter and then spent time with The Chippy staff.

“He was so down to earth, really lovely,” Joanne said.

“He came behind the pans, shook hands with everyone and saw where we do the frying — he said he couldn’t believe there were so many of us working.

“He said now he knew how much work went into making his chips and that he’d appreciate it more in future. He posed for pictures, he signed autographs, he couldn’t have been nicer.

“Our longest serving staff member Maureen Summers even got a hug from him — she’s been with The Chippy coming on 27 years and she said it was the highlight of her career!”
